Maastricht UMC+ BREEAM

Maastricht UMC+, the first hospital in the Netherlands, received the BREEAM certification for sustainability.

Director Stefan Uffelen of the Dutch Green Building Council handed Lou Brans Brabant the BREEAM NL New Design Certificate for the sustainable design of the new building Verheylaan 10.

Van Uffelen did confirm that there are currently eight hospitals working to acquire such a certificate for sustainable construction, but that the Maastricht first hospital succeeded.

The design by the Holland Hospital Architects therefore meets the high requirements for sustainability performancesuch as the BREEAM method defines. Holland Hospital has the full architectural evidence submitted to obtain the label "very good". The new building therefore fits within the CSR policy of the Maastricht UMC +.

The building will be completed in January 2016.
